Family background

William Francis Bodkin was the son of George Clifford Bodkin, navvy and union organiser, and his wife Bridget Ellen, née Callaghan. He lived at 11 Hordern Street, Newtown. His older brother was Joseph Anthony Bodkin.

William Bodkin had two children: a daughter named Frances Bodkin and a son named William George Bodkin, who was also an alderman on the City of Sydney Council.
