Family background

Thomas Culbert was born in Newtown in 1870; his parents were Thomas and Sabina. He was married twice. His first marriage was in Sydney in 1894 to Emma Nickels (1869-1929). His second marriage was in 1937 to Hilda Jean Cooper (c1890-1971). He had two sons and four daughters from both marriages. He died on 17 April 1952, aged 82 years.

Occupation & interests

Culbert grew up in Camperdown where he subsequently worked as a plumber and foreman. A militant Protestant, Culbert was president of Camperdown branch of the Loyal Orange Lodge and also the APDA.
