Mervyn Louis Chapman was born at Mackay, Queensland on 17 May 1914, son of mariner William James Chapman and Annie nee Chase. Unmarried, he died at 304 Glebe Point Road, Glebe on 9 September 1995, aged 81 years.

Community activity

The Glebe Municipal Reform Association, of which Chapman was a member, was formed in 1928, and largely composed of Glebe businessmen who represented the only opposition to the Labor Party’s dominance at local municipal elections between 1925 and 1944.

Local government service

Mervyn Chapman contested the December 1940 municipal election as a Glebe Municipal Reform Association candidate, a coaltion of non-Labor forces, and in a recount of the election in February 1941 was elected for a three year term.
