Family background

Frederick John Goodsell was born in Sussex, England on 13 March 1814 and arrived in Sydney in 1839. A member of the brickmaking Goodsell family in Newtown, he managed his uncle’s brickworks from 1863. He was living in Cooks River Road in the 1850s and 60s, and at Pearl Street, Camdenville in 1888 at the time of his death on 11 June 1888. He was married twice, to Sarah Sivyer in 1831 in England, and after her death in 1868, to Mary Jones in 1869.

Occupation & interests

Goodsell was a member of the brickmaking Goodsell family in Newtown; he managed his uncle’s brickworks from 1863.

Local government service

Frederick John Goodsell was an alderman on Newtown Council in 1866-68, 1872-74, and 1878-86, representing Enmore Ward.
