Family background

Albert Edward Hollingworth was born on 7 November 1896 at Lismore, son of William Thomas Hollingworth and Mary nee Davis. In 1918 he married Catherine Bridget Reynolds at Sydney. There were four children of the marriage. He died at 16 Wigram Road Glebe on 7 July 1969, aged 72 years. Catherine Hollingworth died on 9 February 1981, aged 89 years.

Community activity

During the 1930s many Glebe Labor Party members were anti-Communist, Catholic, socially conservative and likely to belong to a moderate union.

Local government service

Albert Hollingworth, elected in December 1937, voted with Mayor McCormack and three other Glebe aldermen in May 1939 for the contract system for street cleaning and garbage collection. The Labor Party poicy was the use of day labour, and therefore Hollingworth was expelled from the Heffron Party.
